Why are writers so hard on themselves?
Today while I was sifting through old computer files, I stumbled upon an article I'd written about a year ago. To date, the only eyes that have seen this article are mine and my former instructor's--and he only saw it because I didn't have a choice; it was one of my assignments.
Reading it today, with a year's distance between me and that article, I couldn't figure out why I'd once thought it was so embarrassingly bad. In fact, now I might even say it's pretty darn good. While I'd been planning to write a whole new article from scratch for Byline, I've decided to use this old article, which (after a year) kept MY attention and amused me, and doesn't need much work.
It's easy to fall into the it's-Not-Good-Enough trap, but the truth is that the bosses and instructors I've had in the past (other than myself!) have been pleased with my work. Hopefully I can be as good of a boss as they were.

Hi Colleen,
I followed over from your comment on Make Money Freelance Writing. Isn't that odd how you typed in the wrong blogspot address and met up with Katherine?!
I know what you mean about not feeling good enough. I feel that way more often than I'd like to. Here's to reaching all your goals!
Smiles,

Michele,
Now I'm glad for the mistake x2. Great blog - I was just reading about your phone phobia & couldn't agree more. I had an instructor who made me cold-call about 20 editors with a pitch. You'd think that would've cured me, but no such luck!
